Cat Litter MOQ, Lead Time and Cost: Plan Your First Order

Understand cat litter MOQ, production timing and quote scope. Use a first-order worksheet to compare quantities, packaging and delivery plans with suppliers.

For a new pet brand or distributor, cat litter MOQ, lead time and cost are connected decisions. The quantity that works for one standard formula may not work for several fragrances in custom printed bags. A useful quotation therefore starts with a defined product, SKU plan and delivery requirement.

Confirm three things first: what the minimum quantity applies to, which approvals start the production clock and exactly what the quoted price includes. This guide explains how to turn those answers into a practical first-order plan with CleanPaw Island.

What does a cat litter MOQ actually cover?

MOQ means minimum order quantity, but the unit and scope matter. Ask whether the stated minimum is for the total order, each formula, each fragrance or each printed packaging design. Also confirm whether a packaging supplier’s minimum creates a separate commitment for unused bags.

On our OEM/ODM service page, a 5-ton direction is a starting point for discussion, rather than a universal minimum for every project. Formula, packaging format, artwork and shipment plan affect the final quantity. A request for several variants needs a written allocation before it can be treated as an agreed order.

An enquiry might say: “Please quote one unscented formula in one retail pack, and show the quantity and price implications of adding a scented variant.” This provides a clear base case and alternative.

Convert tonnage into a sellable pack plan

Distributors buy stock in units they can receive, store and sell. Convert the proposed net product quantity into retail packs and cartons, then ask the supplier to verify the packing arrangement. Keep net product weight separate from gross shipment weight, which also includes packaging.

For illustration only, assume an order contains 5,000 kg of net product, packed at 2.5 kg per bag, with 4 bags per carton:

CalculationIllustrative result
5,000 kg ÷ 2.5 kg per bag2,000 retail bags
2,000 bags ÷ 4 bags per carton500 cartons
2,000 bags ÷ an assumed 250 bags sold per month8 months of stock

These are calculated examples, not a quotation, approved carton format or sales forecast. They show why an order that sounds modest in tonnes may represent a substantial period of inventory for a new range. Replace the assumed sell-through with your own measured sales or clearly labelled forecast.

Separate sample time, production time and arrival time

A production estimate is only one part of a launch calendar. Build separate milestones for product briefing, sampling, buyer review, artwork approval, manufacturing, inspection, dispatch and warehouse receipt. Assign an owner to every approval so a pending decision is visible.

CleanPaw Island’s published planning ranges are 7–15 days for samples after the brief and sample cost are confirmed, and 20–35 days for bulk production after formula, artwork, payment terms and schedule are confirmed. These are conditional estimates, not guaranteed delivery dates. Confirm the applicable schedule for your exact order.

Do not add the two ranges and call the result your arrival date. Sample transport, feedback, revisions, production scheduling and freight require their own allowances. Ask the supplier to identify the earliest start condition and ask your logistics provider for a separate transport estimate.

For a fixed launch date, work backwards from warehouse receipt and review assumptions before promising public availability.

Compare quotations with the same scope

Start with the same approved specification for every comparison. A lower price for a different fill weight, formula or bag construction cannot answer which offer is better for your planned SKU. Record exclusions beside the headline price rather than leaving them in a later email thread.

Your comparison worksheet should include:

  • Formula reference, fragrance and particle format.
  • Net quantity per pack, pack count and order allocation by SKU.
  • Bag, printing, carton and pallet inclusions.
  • Sample, artwork or setup charges, where applicable.
  • Inspection scope and any separately quoted services.
  • Delivery location, freight inclusion and quotation validity.

Request the packaging specification and approval record alongside the commercial offer. Use a common currency and comparison unit in your own worksheet, and retain the original quotations for reference.

For parcel sample shipments, record both packed weight and dimensions. FedEx notes that shipment rating can use actual or dimensional weight, whichever is greater, with final charges governed by the relevant service guide and contract. This is one reason two sample offers with different packing can carry different freight estimates. See FedEx’s dimensional weight explanation.

Write a first-order request the supplier can answer

A concise request can contain: destination and channel; product reference; number of variants; net quantity per pack; target quantity per SKU; artwork status; required receipt date; and preferred delivery arrangement. Separate fixed requirements from options you are willing to change.

Identify whether your priority is launching one SKU sooner or comparing several formulas. Ask the supplier to flag assumptions affecting quantity, cost or scheduling. Save the agreement as a dated version.

First-order questions

Can I split a starting quantity across several products?

Ask for confirmation by SKU. A total order quantity does not automatically meet the production and packaging requirements of every formula or design within it. Share the proposed split and request a written answer showing accepted quantities, any separate packaging commitment and the resulting schedule.

Does a repeat order always have the same lead time?

A repeat order may reuse an approved specification and artwork, but availability and scheduling still need confirmation. Identify any change in formula, pack, label or order quantity before requesting a date. Refer to the retained sample and approved files so both parties are discussing the same product.

Request a scoped quotation

Send your worksheet to the CleanPaw Island team to discuss cat litter MOQ, lead time and cost. A confirmed SKU plan and approval sequence support a quotation you can use for launch planning.
